Quick answer: You cannot get Trade Tokens in Clash Royale any more. They became unobtainable in October 2025, and the only routes that ever existed were Global Tournaments and special Shop offers — never Clan Wars, the Clan Shop, or Pass Royale. If you still hold tokens from before the cutoff they work normally: one token trades 250 Common, 50 Rare, 10 Epic, or 1 Legendary card, you must be King Level 16 to spend one, and you can trade either with a clanmate or with the Trader NPC in the Shop.
Trade Tokens were added on September 5, 2018 and stopped being obtainable in October 2025 — seven years and one month of availability. A token lets you swap duplicate cards for cards you actually want, and the stock in your inventory now is the stock you will ever have. How Many Cards Does One Trade Token Move?
A Trade Token moves a different number of cards at each rarity, and only the Legendary token is a genuine one-for-one swap:

There is no Champion Trade Token — Champion cards cannot be traded at all. Rarity is locked in both directions: a Rare token trades Rare for Rare, and there is no way to trade up.
What Do You Need to Use a Trade Token?
You must be King Level 16 or higher to complete a trade. Below that level you can still hold tokens, but you cannot spend them until you hit the requirement. You also need a token of the matching rarity, and — for clan trades — both the player posting the trade and the player accepting it need one.
How Does a Clan Trade Work?
Clan trading runs through the Trade tab behind the "Request Card" button:
- Pick the card you want to receive. It can be any card you have unlocked, or one you have not unlocked as long as you have reached the Arena where it unlocks.
- Choose up to 4 cards of that same rarity to offer in exchange, then add an optional message.
- The request posts to your clan. Any clanmate with a matching token can accept, choosing one of the cards you offered.
- If nobody accepts within 36 hours, the trade cancels and refunds your token and cards. You can also cancel manually at any time before acceptance for a full refund.
Two rules catch people out: leaving a clan starts a 2 hour 30 minute cooldown before you can trade again, and you cannot trade away the last copy of a Legendary that keeps the card unlocked.
Can You Trade Without a Clan?
Yes — the Trader, an NPC added in the Clan Wars II Update on August 31, 2020 and moved into the Shop in the Summer 2022 Update on June 27, 2022, trades with you directly, no clanmate needed. How it works:
- You pick 1 of 3 pre-selected cards to give and 1 of 3 pre-selected cards to receive. The rarity of each deal is set randomly and cannot be crossed.
- You can reroll either list for 10 Gems.
- The Trader's deals reset daily at midnight in your local time zone.
- Epic trades appear only on Sundays. Legendary trades appear only if you are at Arena 7 or higher. Other rarities can show any day.
What Is the Best Way to Spend the Tokens You Have Left?
With no resupply, every remaining token is a one-shot decision:
- Legendary tokens are the scarcest and move a single card — spend them on a Legendary you are actively leveling for your main deck.
- Epic tokens move 10 cards at once, which is a real dent in an Evolution or meta Epic you are short on.
- Common and Rare tokens move 250 and 50 cards — enough to close a whole level on a core card. Give away a maxed card and take one you are still upgrading.
- Trading a maxed card costs Gold at the overflow rate: 5 Gold per Common (1,250 for a full 250-card stack), 25 per Rare (1,250 for 50), 100 per Epic (1,000 for 10) and 7,500 for a Legendary.
