What Is the Tower Troop Comparison Tool?

This tool puts all four Clash Royale Tower Troops — Cannoneer, Dagger Duchess, Royal Chef, and Tower Princess — side by side on the stats that actually decide games (DPS, hit speed, range, air targeting) and then tells you which one fits your deck. Pick your archetype and it recommends the best Tower Troop for it.

Why the Tower Troop choice matters

The Tower Troop is the one defensive card you bring to every match, so picking the wrong one quietly costs you games for an entire season. Dagger Duchess’s burst shreds the swarms that cycle decks rely on; Cannoneer hits hardest but can’t touch air; Royal Chef’s heal only pays off behind high-HP beatdown win conditions. The right pick is archetype-dependent, and most players never compare them directly.

How to use it

Choose your deck’s archetype to get a recommendation with the reasoning, then check the matchup logic in the Hog Cycle counter guide and the deck building guide so your Tower Troop reinforces the same plan as the rest of your eight cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Tower Troop has the highest DPS in Clash Royale?
Dagger Duchess has the highest peak DPS when her daggers are stacked — she fires 6 daggers per burst at 64 damage each with a 0.6-second hit speed, producing a brief but extreme burst of about 640 damage in roughly 0.6 seconds. Cannoneer has the highest per-shot damage at approximately 252 per shot but his 2.5-second hit speed limits sustained DPS to roughly 100. Tower Princess and Royal Chef sit in the middle at roughly 95-105 DPS sustained.
Which Tower Troop is best for Hog Cycle?
Dagger Duchess is the standard pick for Hog Cycle and other fast cycle decks. The rapid hit speed and dagger-stack burst punish the swarm cards (Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang, Bats) that typically counter Hog Rider, and the burst output complements the small-damage pressure trades Hog Cycle relies on.
Should I use Cannoneer against LavaLoon?
No. Cannoneer is ground-only and cannot target Lava Hound, Balloon, or Minions. Use Tower Princess or Dagger Duchess against LavaLoon decks. Cannoneer is best reserved for matchups dominated by Giant, Royal Giant, Mega Knight, or Goblin Giant pushes.
Is Royal Chef worth it?
Royal Chef is highly conditional. He sacrifices direct DPS for a heal aura, which only pays off in decks with high-HP win conditions like Golem Beatdown, P.E.K.K.A. Beatdown, or Three Musketeers. For cycle, siege, or bait decks the heal is wasted value — Tower Princess or Dagger Duchess deliver far more defensive damage in those archetypes.
Are Tower Troops affected by the May 26 2026 update?
Yes, indirectly. Tower Troops aren't getting balance changes in the Q2 update, but the Seasonal Arena II level-15 minimum boost only applies to cards in your deck slots — Tower Troops still use their actual upgrade level. Plan to upgrade your preferred Tower Troop directly through its dedicated track; it does not benefit from the deck-level boost.
