Brawl Stars September 2026 Update: Brawler Blast, Cosmo, Vince, Chuck Rework, and Every Balance Change

Updated 2026-09-0116 min readbrawl stars september 2026 updatebrawler blastcosmo brawl starsvince brawl starschuck reworkbrawl stars balance changes

Quick answer: The Brawl Stars September 2026 update replaces Starr Road with the Brawler Blast unlock system, adds two Mythic brawlers (Cosmo and Vince), completely reworks Chuck (starts with a full Super, 4 Super charges, health 4,700 to 4,400), buffs 19 brawlers, nerfs 11 more, ships new Hypercharges for Nori and Wendy, and opens the Royal Academy season (Season 54, September 3 to October 1) with Hide & Seek, Prop Hunt, and a Duolingo collaboration.

The September 2026 update is the biggest structural patch of the year: roughly 70 individual change lines spanning a new unlock system (Brawler Blast, replacing Starr Road), 2 new Mythic brawlers (Cosmo and Vince), a ground-up Chuck rework across 8 stat lines and all 5 abilities, 19 buffed brawlers, 11 nerfed brawlers, 2 new Hypercharges (Nori, Wendy), Buffie reworks for 6 brawlers, and 2 new play formats (Hide & Seek and the Prop Hunt modifier). It lands 4 weeks after the August 4 nerf-only maintenance and swings the opposite way — this is a buff-heavy patch aimed at mid-tier picks. The Windstock Fusions system stays active into the new season, and Buffies remain the permanent 4th build layer they have been since December 2025.

What Is Brawler Blast?

Brawler Blast is the new shooting-gallery unlock system that replaces Starr Road. Credits still progress toward your next brawler by rarity at unchanged costs — Rare 160, Super Rare 430, Epic 925, Mythic 1,900, Legendary 3,800, Ultra 5,500 — but the reveal is now a game: during an opening, up to 10 unowned brawlers of that rarity appear as targets, and the last one standing unlocks. The former "Ultra Legendary" rarity is renamed simply "Ultra", and the Rare and Super Rare brawlers that used to come from Trophy Road now come from Brawler Blast instead.

Each volley can also reveal 1–4 Gem Fragments, which convert into progression for the new brawler: 1 Fragment = +1 Power Level; 2 = +2 Power Levels, a random Gadget, or a random Super Rare Gear; 3 = +3 Power Levels or a random Star Power; 4 = +4 Power Levels, a Hypercharge, or a random Buffie. Across a full opening, 4 total Fragments is the single most likely outcome at 20.04%; the full distribution runs 1 (12.02%), 2 (14.03%), 3 (16.03%), 5 (14.03%), 6 (10.02%), 7 (6.01%), 8 (2.20%), 9 (1.80%), 10 (1.00%), 11 (0.80%), 12 (0.60%), 13 (0.40%), 14–16 (0.20% each), and 17 (0.40%).

Per-opening caps keep the jackpot bounded: at most 1 Gadget, 1 Gear, 1 Star Power, 1 Hypercharge, 1 Buffie, and +10 Power Levels, and early-access brawlers cannot receive Hypercharges or Buffies. There is also a 50% chance an opening lets you select which brawler unlocks — when it does, you choose between 2 options 57.14% of the time, 3 options 28.57%, and 4 options 14.29%.

Who Are Cosmo and Vince, the New September 2026 Brawlers?

What Does Cosmo Do?

Cosmo is a Mythic Controller — an astronomer whose attack fires 3 projectiles that orbit in a circle. His Super, Gravitational Pull, attaches a magnet to an enemy so that teammates' projectiles gain homing. His Gadgets are Planetary Pushback (knockback) and Telescope Trap (reveals an area and blocks movement abilities); his Star Powers are Precession (25% orbit speed) and Ammo Attractor (reload 2 ammo on hit). Telescope Trap blocking movement abilities is the sleeper line — it is a drafting answer to dash and jump kits.

What Does Vince Do?

Vince is a Mythic Damage Dealer — a café owner whose caterpillars periodically spawn near him; converting them (by hitting or walking over them) makes moths, and he loses 50% of his collection on defeat. His attack is Espresso Shot, and his Super, Barista Barrage, inflicts a Caterpillar debuff that makes his main attacks deal bonus damage to debuffed enemies. Gadgets: Hot Coffee (explosive cappuccino) and Metamorphosis. Star Powers: Come to Papa (caterpillars crawl to Vince) and Bug Bandage (1,200 heal per conversion).

How Does the Chuck Rework Change His Kit?

Impact: massive. Chuck is rebuilt from the rails up. He now starts matches with a full Super, holds up to 4 Super charges (4 poles), no longer auto-charges Super, and keeps his Super on respawn if it was full. Every stat moves to pay for it: health 4,700 to 4,400, shield 50% to 35%, dash damage 1,750 to 800, dash speed 3,700 to 3,200, range 20 to 18 — while projectile speed jumps from 1,750 to 2,700, pole-placement knockback is removed, and falloff is removed from his main attack. Both Gadgets are reworked — Rerouting (removes the nearest pole and recharges 50% Super) and Ghost Train (pass through walls for 8 seconds) — as are both Star Powers, Pit Stop (placing a pole slows enemies 20%) and Tickets Please! (the dash steals 33% of enemy ammo), plus his Hypercharge Full Steam Ahead! (each pole hit deals 1,600 area damage). The read: Chuck stops being a dash assassin and becomes a map-setup brawler whose power lives in pole placement, not the hit itself.

Which Brawlers Were Buffed in September 2026?

Nineteen brawlers get general buffs, and the list skews toward picks that have been absent from the tier list top tiers all summer:

  • Melodie — Impact: significant. Four lines: health 3,800 to 4,000, Gadget cooldown 14s to 10s, movement speed bonus 25% to 35%, and range bonus 60% to 70%. The largest single-brawler buff package of the patch.
  • Leon — Impact: significant. His Gadget clone's range jumps from 5 to 25, its damage quadruples from 200 to 800, and it now matches Leon's own speed — the clone finally reads as real. Update your reads in the Leon counter guide accordingly.
  • Tara — Impact: significant. Both Super shadows scale up: Black Portal's Shadow gains health (3,400 to 4,000) and damage (800 to 1,000); Healing Shade's Shadow gains health (3,000 to 4,000) and healing (400 to 600).
  • Eve — Impact: significant. Super hatchlings 3 to 4 plus +17% Super Charge — more hatchlings, arriving more often.
  • Clancy — Impact: significant. Reload 2,000 to 1,800, Stage 2 now needs only 5 tokens (from 6), and Stage 3 rises from 21 to 24 — a faster early spike with a slightly later peak.
  • Jae-Yong — Impact: small. Main-attack heal 650 to 750 and Star Power speed 10% to 15%.
  • Bea — Impact: small. Gadget cooldown 24s to 20s and Super damage 100 to 130.
  • Buster — Impact: small. Gadget heal 450 to 600 and Star Power bonus 15% to 20%.
  • Jessie — Impact: small. Super turret damage 260 to 300.
  • Janet — Impact: small. Main attack damage 1,000 to 1,100.
  • Bo — Impact: small. Main damage 640 to 700.
  • Maisie — Impact: small. Projectile speed 3,000 to 3,200.
  • Dynamike — Impact: small. Gadget damage 1,200 to 1,400.
  • Hank — Impact: small. Health 5,200 to 5,500.
  • Ziggy and Colette — Impact: small. Super Charge Rate +6% and +10% respectively.
  • Jacky — Impact: small. Star Power shield 20% to 25%.
  • Lola — Impact: small. Her Super Ego's movement now matches Lola's own.
  • Shade — Impact: small. Star Power movement speed 15% to 20%.

Which Brawlers Were Nerfed in September 2026?

Eleven brawlers take general nerfs, and the pattern is deliberate — Super economy and Gadget uptime, not raw damage:

  • Wendy — Impact: massive. Four lines: Super Charge Rate −20%, Super charge from her Shield 50% to 30%, Shield Generator health 3,500 to 2,500, and damage reduction 75% to 60%. The nerf lands in the same patch as her new Hypercharge, so her ceiling rises while her floor drops.
  • Nori — Impact: significant. Gadget cooldown 12s to 18s, health 3,800 to 3,500, and main slash damage 1,100 to 1,000 — his third straight month of attention after August's triple bug-fix pass.
  • Max — Impact: significant. Hypercharge Buffie Super Charge 7% to 6%, both Gadget cooldowns 15s to 18s, and Super Charge Rate −8% — her third consecutive Super-economy tax after July and August.
  • Rico — Impact: significant. Star Power Buffie max speed 60% to 50%, Gadget cooldown 19s to 22s, and Bouncy Castle damage 980 to 900.
  • Ruffs — Impact: significant. Super Charge Rate −20%, a straight fifth slower to each buff station.
  • Meg — Impact: small. Gadget cooldown 22s to 25s and Star Power shield 40% to 30%.
  • Griff — Impact: small. Gadget cooldown 15s to 18s and Super charge 88 to 70, stacking on August's radius nerf.
  • Ash — Impact: small. Tank Trait Super charge from damage taken −15%.
  • Bolt — Impact: small. Acceleration speed −15%, his third nerfed patch since June.
  • Brock — Impact: small. Hypercharge Buffie damage 60% to 40%.
  • Lumi — Impact: small. Main-attack Recall damage 900 to 800.

Which New Hypercharges Arrive in September 2026?

Two Hypercharges ship with the update. Nori's Master Fisherman makes jumping into water pull all enemies in before the area damage lands; Wendy's Green Energy increases Shield Generator health and absorbs 90% of damage taken by Wendy or her teammates. Both are covered in depth in the Nori and Wendy guide, and the mechanics of charge rates and timing are in the Hypercharge guide. Note the tension in Wendy's kit: Green Energy is built around the same Shield Generator whose health was just cut from 3,500 to 2,500.

Which Buffies Were Reworked in September 2026?

Buffie reworks land for 6 brawlers — Poco, El Primo, Amber, Gus, Chuck, and Shade — each getting reworked "Buffied" bonuses across Gadgets, Star Powers, and Hypercharges. The highlights: Poco's Tuning Fork now heals nearby allies 400 HP 3 times over 6 seconds (Buffied: +25% reload speed for 2s); El Primo's Suplex Supplement dashes and suplexes the first brawler grabbed (Buffied: an 800 area-damage slam); Amber's Fire Starters summons a 3,500-HP Oil Barrel (Buffied: 2 barrels); Gus's Knockback Spirit is reworked (Buffied: spawns a spirit per brawler hit); and Shade's Jump Scare is reworked (Buffied: a 1,000-health shield).

What New Modes and Events Are in the September 2026 Update?

Hide & Seek is the headline mode: 1 Seeker versus 3 Hiders across 4 rounds, with players rotating as Seeker and 45 seconds per round. The Seeker cannot regenerate health and scores 3 points by eliminating all Hiders; each surviving Hider scores 1 point. The mode is built on the new Prop Hunt modifier — stop moving to blend into the map as a decoration, attack and you are revealed — which also runs in Showdown, Gem Grab, Knockout, Bounty, and Friendly Rooms. Two more modifiers arrive: Loaded Walls (breaking walls spawns bombs, bowling balls, shuriken, or bumper cars) and Friendly Fire.

Events: a 2-week Duolingo collaboration (boss fight, community event, daily rewards), then Brawl-O-Ween, a month-long multi-phase October event tied to Gus. It introduces Loony, Gus's balloon buddy, as a lobby companion you can poke, drag, shake, squeeze, and throw; Loony's Loot pays out Starr Drops or Chaos Drops (0–2 per day) across a maximum of 6 daily wins.

What Are the Royal Academy Season and New Ranked Maps?

Royal Academy is Season 54, running September 3 to October 1, 2026, with Brawl Pass skins Head Coach Hank and Principal Nani (both Epic); the Brawl-O-Ween season follows in October with Fortune Teller P and Cursed Shade. Fusions carry over from Windstock unchanged.

Ranked gets a two-season map plan: Season 1 is Brawl Ball on Spiraling Out and Beach Ball with free rotation Trunk, Willow, and Kaze; Season 2 is Hot Zone on In the Liminal and Quick Travel with free rotation Ash, Mortis, and Pierce. New community maps entering rotation include Tread Carefully (Hot Zone), In Demand and Pump It Up (Brawl Ball), Dungeon Train (Gem Grab), Stroke of Luck (Knockout), Stone Skipping and False Sense Of Security (Duels), Alchemy (Bounty), Net Presence (Hockey), and Triple Threat and Brawler's Rift (Arena).

What Quality-of-Life Changes Did the September Update Ship?

Respawn invincibility now ends the moment you take any action — attack, Gadget, Super, or Hypercharge — closing the protected-first-shot pattern. Speed stacking is unified: Gear Speed now stacks with other speed sources, and 17 speed Star Powers (8-Bit's Plugged In, Colt's Slick Boots, El Primo's Meteor Rush, and Rico's Robo Retreat among them) now stack too. The Brawler Collection screen is rebuilt with horizontal scrolling and Search, and Latin American Spanish is added. Environments rotate as well: adidas Arena, Katana Kingdom, MadEvil Manor, and Pyramid Quest are removed; Brawlywood, Duolingo, Ghost Metro, Giftshop, and Swamp of Love arrive.

How Does Brawl Arena Scaling Change?

Brawl Arena scaling changes apply to the Arena mode only, and mostly walk back overtuned scalers. Presented exactly as the notes list them:

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Brawler Blast in Brawl Stars?

Brawler Blast is the shooting-gallery unlock system that replaces Starr Road in the September 2026 update. Credit costs are unchanged (Rare 160 up to Ultra 5,500), up to 10 unowned brawlers of a rarity appear as targets, and 50% of openings let you choose which brawler unlocks.

How many Gem Fragments can you get per Brawler Blast opening?

Gem Fragments range from 1 to 17 per opening, with 4 the most likely total at 20.04% odds. Each volley reveals 1–4 Fragments, and 4 Fragments convert into +4 Power Levels, a Hypercharge, or a random Buffie.

Who are the new brawlers in the September 2026 update?

Cosmo (Mythic Controller, orbiting 3-projectile attack, homing-magnet Super) and Vince (Mythic Damage Dealer, caterpillar-to-moth collection kit that loses 50% on defeat). Both cost 1,900 Credits as Mythics through Brawler Blast.

Is Chuck good after the September 2026 rework?

Chuck now starts matches with a full Super and banks up to 4 charges, but pays with 8 stat cuts including health 4,700 to 4,400 and dash damage 1,750 to 800. The editorial read: stronger on modes where pre-placed pole networks control space, weaker as a raw assassin.

When does the Royal Academy season start in Brawl Stars?

Royal Academy (Season 54) starts September 3, 2026 and ends October 1, 2026, with Epic Brawl Pass skins Head Coach Hank and Principal Nani. The Fusions system from Windstock stays active through it.

Did Wendy get nerfed or buffed in September 2026?

Wendy got both: 4 general nerf lines (Super Charge Rate −20%, Shield charge 50% to 30%, Shield Generator health 3,500 to 2,500, damage reduction 75% to 60%) plus a new Hypercharge, Green Energy, that absorbs 90% of damage taken by Wendy or teammates.

How does Hide & Seek work in Brawl Stars?

Hide & Seek pits 1 Seeker against 3 Hiders over 4 rounds of 45 seconds each, with players rotating as Seeker. The Seeker cannot regenerate health and earns 3 points for eliminating all Hiders; each Hider earns 1 point for surviving.
