How to Counter Beatdown Decks in Clash Royale: Golem, Giant & Elixir Golem (October 2026)

Updated 2026-10-1322 min read

Quick answer: The most reliable way to counter heavy beatdown is splash plus a cheap swarm on your side of the river — Wizard (5 elixir) behind your tower for Golem's support and Skeleton Army (3 elixir) for Giant — combined with an immediate push in the opposite lane the moment your opponent spends 8 elixir on a Golem.

How to Counter Beatdown Decks in Clash Royale: Golem, Giant & Elixir Golem (October 2026)

Golem Beatdown is 5.06% of the decks played at 9,000+ trophies in the October 12, 2026 snapshot, well above its 1.69-2.86% share in every lower band, while Giant Beatdown peaks at 5.38% under 5,000 trophies. The three heavy tanks cost 8 (Golem), 5 (Giant) and 3 (Elixir Golem) elixir. The counter tables below list measured counters by battles (October 6-12, 2026); splash and swarm cards such as Wizard, Skeleton Army and Valkyrie are the most-played. None of the three tanks changed in the Season 88 balance patch of October 6, 2026.

Which cards counter Golem?

Golem is countered by the cards that kill what walks behind it. P.E.K.K.A (7 elixir) is the tank killer, and Inferno Tower and Inferno Dragon are the ramping answers. Each table lists a selection of measured counters and the battles behind each; these are associations, not proof.

What is heavy beatdown and why does it win?

Heavy beatdown is any deck built around one high-hitpoint tank that targets buildings only — Golem (8 elixir), Giant (5) or Elixir Golem (3) — with splash and air support behind it. TrophyCoach labels these decks Golem Beatdown, Giant Beatdown (Giant Double Prince when the Giant runs two bridge-spam cards such as Dark Prince and Golden Knight; Prince itself does not count), Elixir Golem, and E-Golem Healer when Battle Healer joins the Elixir Golem.

Beatdown wins with one double-elixir push too big to stop: the tank absorbs tower damage while Night Witch, Baby Dragon, Electro Dragon or Wizard deal the damage behind it. Its weakness is the same commitment — an 8-elixir Golem dropped at 10 elixir leaves its owner with 2.

Which tank decks does this guide not cover?

Electro Giant and Lava Hound need different answers and have their own guides. Electro Giant zaps every attacker within its reach, so the swarm-first plan below fails against it: read how to counter Electro Giant. Lava Hound is an air tank that ground splash cannot touch: see how to counter LavaLoon. Mega Knight has its own counter guide. Giant Graveyard and Royal Giant are covered in how to counter Graveyard and how to counter Royal Giant.

How do you place your defence against a Golem push?

Golem placement means pulling the tank to the middle and keeping your splash troops apart. All three tanks target buildings only and walk past any troop you drop.

Where should you place a building against Golem?

A defensive building in the centre of your side pulls a building-targeting tank toward the middle, away from both Princess Towers, so both towers can shoot it. Place Inferno Tower, Tombstone or Goblin Cage in the centre column as the Golem crosses the bridge, not earlier, or it loses lifetime and invites Lightning. Golem's sight range grew from 7.0 to 7.5 tiles on September 8, 2026, so it locks onto a centre building slightly earlier than it did in August.

How do you deal with Night Witch, Baby Dragon and Bats behind the Golem?

Night Witch, Baby Dragon and Night Witch's Bats are the damage in a Golem push, so they are your first target. Put Wizard, Executioner or Firecracker behind your tower where it hits the support, and let your building and Princess Towers wear down the tank.

When should you use P.E.K.K.A or a tank killer?

P.E.K.K.A is a listed Golem counter at 9,000+ (903 battles). Play P.E.K.K.A or Mini P.E.K.K.A on the Golem only after the support is split off or dead; a P.E.K.K.A swarmed by Bats never reaches the tank. Inferno Tower and Inferno Dragon follow the same rule, because Zap, Electro Dragon and Lightning reset or destroy them inside a full push.

How do you defend the main Golem Beatdown variants?

Golem Beatdown runs in three main shapes on the October 2026 ladder; all three lists are tracked decks in at least two trophy bands.

How do you beat Golem Elite Barbarians Night Witch?

Golem Elite Barbarians Night Witch — Golem, Bomber, Lumberjack, Night Witch, Mega Minion, Elite Barbarians, Zap, Arrows (4.0 average elixir) — is the most widely tracked Golem list, appearing in every band from under 5,000 to 9,000+. Its threat is the 6-elixir Elite Barbarians sent down the other lane. Keep Valkyrie or Mini P.E.K.K.A for them, and use Wizard or Firecracker on the Bomber, Night Witch and Lumberjack.

How do you beat Golem Electro Dragon?

Golem Electro Dragon — Golem, Lumberjack, Electro Dragon, Tornado, Barbarian Barrel, Elixir Collector, Skeleton Dragons, Battle Healer (4.5 average elixir) — is tracked at 6,000-7,000, 7,000-8,000 and 9,000+. Electro Dragon's chain attack resets Inferno Tower and Inferno Dragon on every hit, so play a non-ramping tank killer (P.E.K.K.A, Mini P.E.K.K.A) here. When the 6-elixir Elixir Collector goes down, push the opposite lane.

How do you beat Golem Night Witch Lightning?

Golem Night Witch Lightning — Golem, Baby Dragon, Lumberjack, Lightning, Mega Minion, Tornado, Night Witch, Barbarian Barrel (4.25 average elixir) — carries Lightning for your building and splash troop. Lightning hits the three highest-hitpoint targets in its area, so stagger your Wizard, Executioner and building so no two share a Lightning radius.

How do you counter Giant Beatdown?

Giant Beatdown is the cheaper, faster cousin of Golem: the Giant costs 5 elixir instead of 8, so its owner still has 5 to defend with. The three tracked lists below range from 2.75 to 3.6 average elixir.

How do you beat the Giant Prince Wizard spirit deck?

Giant Prince Wizard — Giant, Wizard, Prince, Goblins, Spear Goblins, Fire Spirit, Electro Spirit, Skeletons (2.75 average elixir) — is tracked in four bands, from under 5,000 to 7,000-8,000. Skeleton Army or Mini P.E.K.K.A stops the Prince; Valkyrie or Wizard clears Goblins and Spear Goblins. At 2.75 elixir it cycles back to the Giant fast, so never overspend on one push.

How do you beat Giant Sparky?

Giant Sparky — Giant, Wizard, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Sparky, Zap, Tornado, Heal Spirit, Skeletons (3.4 average elixir) — is tracked at 8,000-9,000 and 9,000+. TrophyCoach labels it Giant Beatdown because the Giant rule fires first. Sparky's charged shot deals heavy splash damage to ground defenders, so reset it with Electro Wizard (4 elixir, 0.5-second stun) or Zap as it charges. The Sparky counter guide covers Giant Sparky from the Sparky side.

How do you beat classic Giant Musketeer?

Giant Musketeer — Giant, Knight, Archers, Musketeer, Minions, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Arrows, Fireball (3.6 average elixir) — is tracked at under 5,000, 5,000-6,000 and 6,000-7,000. Mega Knight (7 elixir) is a strong answer because its spawn and jump splash land on Knight, Musketeer and Archers together behind the Giant. Without Mega Knight, use Wizard on the Minions and Archers and Mini P.E.K.K.A on the Giant.

Which cards counter Giant?

Giant is countered by swarm and splash: Skeleton Army (3 elixir) and Mega Knight (7 elixir) are the usual answers. At 9,000+ Skeleton Dragons and Inferno Tower are also listed.

How do you counter Elixir Golem and E-Golem Healer?

Elixir Golem is a 3-elixir building-targeting tank that splits twice — into two Elixir Golemites, then four Elixir Blobs — and gives you elixir as you destroy its pieces.

How do you beat E-Golem Healer?

E-Golem Healer — Elixir Golem, Battle Healer, Electro Dragon, Baby Dragon, Barbarians, Mini P.E.K.K.A, Tornado, Barbarian Barrel (3.75 average elixir) — is tracked at 5,000-6,000; a second build swaps Barbarians and Mini P.E.K.K.A for Night Witch and Rage (3.4 average elixir) and is tracked at 7,000-8,000. Kill the Battle Healer first: since the August 3, 2026 rework she no longer heals herself, but her heals keep the Elixir Golem pieces alive. Valkyrie clears the Blobs and ground support; Wizard also reaches Electro Dragon and Baby Dragon.

Should you spend elixir killing every Elixir Golem piece?

Elixir Golem's elixir gift means you do not need to spend on every Blob. Let your towers finish the last pieces and use that elixir in the opposite lane. At 9,000+, Executioner and Bowler clear several pieces at once, Tornado groups them, and Lightning hits Battle Healer and Electro Dragon.

Which cards counter Elixir Golem?

Elixir Golem is countered by ground splash: Valkyrie (4 elixir) and Mega Knight (7 elixir) clear its pieces, and Executioner and Bowler are listed at 9,000+.

How do you punish beatdown on offense?

Beatdown is punished by forcing its owner to choose between building the push and defending a tower.

When should you push the opposite lane?

Push the opposite lane the moment the tank is placed behind the King Tower. A Golem dropped at 10 elixir leaves 2, so a 4-elixir Hog Rider or Battle Ram in the other lane forces them to spend the elixir they are regenerating on defence instead of on the Night Witch or Baby Dragon meant to join the Golem. A Giant leaves 5, enough to defend, so the same push against Giant is about the trade: every elixir they spend on it is one not behind the Giant.

Should you defend everything or take tower damage?

Take some tower damage when the trade is right. A 15-elixir Golem push stopped with 8 elixir leaves you 7 ahead even if the tower loses a few hundred hitpoints; stopping it perfectly with 14 leaves nothing to counterpush with.

Which decks beat heavy beatdown?

Heavy beatdown faces four tracked decks that punish the tank drop. The picks below are an editorial judgment from card interactions; Trophy Road (under 9,000) matchup results are withheld, and only the 9,000+ verdicts quoted are TrophyCoach's archetype-matchup results.

Is P.E.K.K.A Bridge Spam good against beatdown?

P.E.K.K.A Bridge Spam — P.E.K.K.A, Battle Ram, Bandit, Royal Ghost, Electro Wizard, Magic Archer, Poison, Zap (3.9 average elixir) — is tracked (with Poison or Fireball) in every band from under 5,000 to 9,000+. At 9,000+ the measured verdict against Golem Beatdown is slightly favourable and against Giant Beatdown slightly unfavourable. P.E.K.K.A (7 elixir) kills a Golem that is left alone, Electro Wizard stuns support troops, and Battle Ram plus Bandit punish every Golem drop. See it from the other side in how to counter Bridge Spam.

Is Log Bait good against beatdown?

Log Bait — Goblin Barrel, Princess, Knight, Inferno Tower, Goblin Gang, Rocket, Ice Spirit, The Log (3.25 average elixir) — is tracked in all six bands. At 9,000+ the measured verdict against Golem Beatdown is favourable. Inferno Tower (5 elixir) melts any tank, and Princess is a listed Giant counter at 9,000+ (683 battles); a Golem list with Electro Dragon, which resets the Inferno, is the harder version.

Is Hog Executioner good against Elixir Golem?

Hog Executioner — Hog Rider, Executioner, Valkyrie, Goblins, Tornado, Rocket, Ice Spirit, The Log (3.4 average elixir, labelled Hog Cycle) — is tracked in four bands, 5,000-6,000 to 9,000+. Executioner (5 elixir) splashes several Elixir Golem pieces at once, and Valkyrie (4 elixir) clears the Blobs, so the deck is well equipped by card interaction.

Is Miner Control good against Giant?

Miner Control — Miner, Inferno Dragon, Mega Knight, Goblin Gang, Skeleton Barrel, Bats, Spear Goblins, Zap (3.25 average elixir) — is tracked in all six bands. It is good against Giant only at 9,000+, where the measured verdict against Giant Beatdown is slightly favourable; below 9,000 its Mega Knight (7 elixir) and Inferno Dragon (4 elixir) are slower than a committed Giant push, and that is an editorial judgment.

What changed for beatdown in Season 88?

Golem, Giant, Elixir Golem, Night Witch and Battle Healer were all untouched in the October 6, 2026 balance patch of Season 88 (October 5 – November 2, 2026).

Impact: significant. Elixir Collector production 13s → 15s; lifetime 1m 33s → 1m 50s (October 6, 2026). The Golem Electro Dragon build runs Elixir Collector, which now takes longer to return its 6 elixir, so punish the Collector drop harder.

Impact: small. Barbarian Barrel damage 232 → 215 (October 6, 2026). Barbarian Barrel sits in the Golem Electro Dragon, Golem Night Witch Lightning and E-Golem Healer lists, so their cheap ground clear hits your counterpush slightly softer.

Impact: small. Royal Ghost hitpoints 1,210 → 1,152 (October 6, 2026). A small hit to P.E.K.K.A Bridge Spam's pressure.

Impact: small. Elite Barbarians Evolution spear sight range 4.5 → 6 tiles (bug fix, October 6, 2026). The Golem Elite Barbarians Night Witch list is slightly more reliable with the Evolution.

Impact: small. Skeletons get a tighter spawn spread, and Golden Knight goes 161 → 168 damage with dash range 5.5 → 5 tiles (October 6, 2026). These touch Giant Prince Wizard, Giant Sparky and Golden Knight Giant Double Prince lists.

Earlier context: Wizard damage 281 → 304 (+8%) and Bomber 225 → 212 on September 8, 2026, and the Battle Healer rework on August 3, 2026 (no self-heal; damage 148 → 268). Details: Season 88 guide.

What are the most common mistakes against beatdown?

Beatdown punishes five defensive mistakes, each with a fix.

Mistake 1 — Hitting the tank first. A Golem push does most of its damage through Night Witch and Baby Dragon. Kill the support with splash first.

Mistake 2 — Placing a building too early. A building dropped before the Golem crosses the bridge loses lifetime and invites Lightning.

Mistake 3 — Stacking defenders in one Lightning radius. Lightning hits three targets; a Wizard, Musketeer and Inferno Tower placed side by side put 14 elixir of defenders under one 6-elixir spell.

Mistake 4 — Skeleton Army on a dying Golem. Skeleton Army (3 elixir) is a cheap answer to Night Witch, but Golem's death damage wipes it; use the swarm on Night Witch, Lumberjack or Bomber.

Mistake 5 — Never punishing the tank drop. An 8-elixir Golem at the back is your biggest opening; without opposite-lane pressure, the Golem player builds their double-elixir push.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best card to counter Golem in Clash Royale?

Wizard (5 elixir, 304 splash damage per hit since September 8, 2026) is the most-played listed Golem counter, with 800 to 1,480 battles per band. At 9,000+, P.E.K.K.A (903 battles) is also listed.

How do I stop a Golem Night Witch push?

Golem Night Witch is stopped by Wizard, Executioner or Firecracker on the Night Witch and Bats, plus a centre building that pulls the 8-elixir Golem between both towers.

What counters Giant Beatdown at low trophies?

Giant Beatdown under 5,000 trophies, where it is 5.38% of decks, is countered by listed cards such as Skeleton Army (3,364 battles), Mini P.E.K.K.A (3,093), Mega Knight (1,045), Electro Wizard (871) and Executioner (163).

How do you beat Elixir Golem with Battle Healer?

Elixir Golem with Battle Healer is beaten by killing the Battle Healer first and clearing the pieces with ground splash; Valkyrie (4 elixir) clears Blobs and ground support. Since the August 3, 2026 rework, Battle Healer no longer heals herself.

Did Golem get nerfed in the October 2026 balance patch?

Golem was not changed in the October 6, 2026 patch; its last change was a sight range buff from 7.0 to 7.5 tiles on September 8, 2026. Elixir Collector was nerfed from 13s to 15s production.

Is Inferno Tower still good against beatdown?

Inferno Tower is a listed counter for both Golem (496 battles) and Giant (337) at 9,000+. It is weaker against Golem Electro Dragon, whose chain attack resets the Inferno.

**Methodology:** Counter tables: win_condition_counters, battles October 6-12, 2026, pairs with at least 100 battles on both arms and a negative measured impact, listed most-played first (by battles with the counter); win rates and impact figures withheld because no trophy band is published. Popularity: meta_trends snapshot of October 12, 2026. Deck lists are tracked decks; average elixir is derived from card costs. 9,000+ deck verdicts are TrophyCoach's archetype-matchup results of October 12-13, 2026 (14-day window), percentages withheld; lower-band results are withheld.
